West Jefferson, North Carolina is a small historic mountain town in Ashe County that grew up around the Virginia-Carolina Railroad in the early 1900s, officially chartered in 1915. Once a timber and rail hub with cherry orchards and North Carolina’s only regional cheese factory, it has reinvented itself as an arts- and tourism-oriented destination with a walkable downtown, galleries, public murals, local food producers, and easy access to outdoor adventures in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
