Beech Mountain, North Carolina is the highest incorporated town east of the Mississippi (5,506 ft), known for its four-season mountain recreation, mild summer temps, winter sports, and scenic views. Originally a rugged high ridge used by Cherokee and early settlers, it later developed into a year-round destination with skiing, biking, scenic trails, and unique local culture — even including a quirky Land of Oz heritage and history of early logging and railroads preserved at the local history museum.
